Things to Do (Activities, Trips & Tours)

Movie Nite – “3:10 to Yuma”

Rancher Dan Evans agrees to transport the captured outlaw Bed Wade to the nearest town with a rail station, where they’ll wait for a train to court in Yuma.  Holed up in the hotel hear the station Wade wreaks psychological havoc on Evans, while Wade’s henchmen plan their next move.

Patio Lunch & Games - Monday, July 26 - resulted in a huge win of the day for Tony’s Tigers, with a landslide of 34-10 over Gene’s Bombers.  Nearly everyone had multiple hits that day, with the ladies leading in singles and doubles and the men scoring high with triples and homers.  Home runs and/or Grand Slams of the day went to Bob Spangenberg, Dorothy Hartman, Bonnie Wunrow, Dick Nelson, Bob Kroll and Hib.

Remember, the Patio Luncheon on Monday, August 9 at Noon will be a b/y/o lunch.

The final B.O.S.S. Sub Patio Lunch will be Monday, August 23.  Please sign up and drop your $1.50 payment in the Office Drop Box between now and Friday, August 20 at Noon to order your sub.

Things to Do (Activities, Trips & Tours)

Trinity Lutheran Church Tour,

Wednesday, August 18, 2010 -   Declared a Milwaukee landmark in 1967, a State Historical Landmark in 1979 and placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979, Trinity was built in 1878 in Victorian Gothic style of cream city brick in the shape of a cross, with all interior woodwork hand carved from Wisconsin Oak and Ash.  Our tour of Trinity will be followed by lunch at the Ebenezer Lutheran Church Soup Kitchen and a drive-by of St. Stephen Lutheran Church.

A $3 donation is requested and can be paid at Trinity, and a free-will donation can be given for the soup lunch at Ebenezer.  (There is a short flight of stairs to negotiate at Ebenezer.)  A $2 bus donation will be collected on the bus, which will depart at 10:30 am, returning about 2:30 pm.  Our Church Tour Guide for the day will be our own Judy Wiedenkeller, who has studied the history of these churches at length.  Deadline to sign up for this tour is Wednesday, August 11 at noon.  A minimum of 8 is required for this tour.

Resident/Board Picnic – Thank you to everyone who joined in the fun at this year’s picnic.  We hope you enjoyed the fellowship, great weather, good food and wonderful entertainment.  If you were unable to make it, you missed Hib’s recognition presentation to Howard Traeder for filling in as his assistant these past few years.  Starting next week, Bob Kroll will be taking over this position.

Champagne Favorites - The music of Lawrence Welk will be performed by Mike Huffman on Sunday, August 29 at 4:00 pm at Bethel Lutheran Church in Muskego.  The concert will be followed at 5:30 pm by a Chicken Dinner, including potato salad, beans, roll and dessert.  The concert is free, but free-will donations will be accepted for the meal.  To attend, please sign up at the Atrium Information Counter by Thursday, August 19 at Noon.  A $2 bus donation will be collected on the bus, which will depart at 3:20 pm.  A minimum of 8 is required for the bus.

U In Our Prayers U

Please continue to pray for our Steeple View family members and friends with health concerns:

Richard & Delores Werner; Ron & Virginia Anderson; Ed Breiling; Vic Mueller; Ken Weidt; Bill Butzlaff; Delores Albrecht; Bev O’Connell; Bev Campbell and Tony Agneta’s friend Father Marty.

As we continue to pray for those in need, we will keep you on our prayer list until you advise us to remove your name.

Office notes
Shredders
– The library computer area has been equipped with two paper shredders for resident’s use.  We ask that you empty the garbage can, reline it with a trash bag provided in the bottom of the can and return it to the library when you have finished your shredding task.  Please keep in mind that shredded paper is NOT recyclable.  It should be tightly bagged and placed in the blue trash bins.

Kitchen Refrigerator – over the past few weeks, food items have been disappearing from the Community Room Kitchen refrigerator.  Please do not remove or eat anything from the refrigerator if it is not yours.

If you are a resident who needs help with groceries, please talk to Hib privately, and we will help you address this need.

Milgard Windows advises that when your windows area closed that they be locked as well to maintain the shape of the window to prevent warping.

Lost & Found – a woman’s cross necklace was found in the West parking lot.  Please stop in the office to claim it if you are missing this item.

Trash Talk – thanks to all of you who are using tall drawstring kitchen trash bags, securely tied for your garbage/trash.  There are still a few who continue to use the regular plastic grocery bags which break open on impact and make a mess in the trash bins.  We kindly ask that you use the stronger garbage/trash bags with drawstrings tied securely.  The thin grocery bags can be donated to the food pantry’s yellow bin in the east garage.

 Inspirational Thought for the Week

“I praise you, Lord, for being my guide.”

                   ~Psalm 16:7

Life throws us curves all the time.  And forks in the road.  And roadblocks.  In those times, we turn to the Lord for direction.  And in His name, in His way, He gives it.  God’s guidance shows the way that leads to true life.  It is always for our good.  And it will always come when we need it most.
